In observance of Sexual Assault Awareness & Prevention Month each April, SAAFE House has a number of events and activities hosted to raise the awareness of the community. On Wednesday, April 24th, they ask businesses, organizations, and individuals to wear denim in support of sexual assault survivors and to raise awareness about sexual assault misconceptions. It’s probably not a subject that you converse about very often, but they see survivors of sexual assault throughout the year.
According to law enforcement officials, in the areas served by SAAFE House there were 156 reported sexual assaults. Unfortunately, statistically 80% of sexual assaults are never reported.
In Commissioners Court Monday from another organization, Safe Harbor’s Victoria Constance filled Commissioners in on how her organization helps young abuse victims in a three-county area in cases of abuse . . . .
Ms. Constance said they use forensic interviewing to communicate with the children . . . .
