SHSU Benefactor Fred Pirkle to Be Honored

Published on May 31, 2013 by Larry Crippen

Tomorrow night, SHSU alumnus and benefactor Fred Pirkle will be honored during the annual Shotgun Fred Pirkle Remembrance Celebration.

Pirkle pledged the biggest gift ever, $25 million, to the university shortly before he died in 2012. He founded Therm-Omega-Tech, Incorporated. He also earned a bachelors in industrial arts in 1970 and a masters in industrial technology in 1974 from SHSU.

Appetizers start at 4 PM, and a barbecue dinner will be served after that. Speakers after tonight’s dinner include former student Fred Hanley, SHSU Agriculture chair Dr. Stanley Kelly, and co-founder of the Kansas Barbecue Society, Caroline Whales.

For more information on the dinner, call Ben Pruitt at 661-4204.
