The Huntsville City Council will hold a special session tonight at six.
The special session was called after the events of the September 17th meeting were reviewed, and it was discovered that two motions to Call the Question – meaning to end debate and call for a final vote of Council – were not seconded and followed by an affirming vote of Council as required by the Rules of Procedure.
Mayor Mac Woodward said, “Following the regular Council meeting on September 17th, we realized there may have been a problem with the way two Council discussions were ended,” He said, “We checked the Council Rules of Procedure and confirmed there had been an error.
“With that knowledge, I called Council Member Allen, the single vote against the two items and apologized for the mistake. I offered him the option of convening the council to consider the two items. Mr. Allen exercised his wish to do so and I made the decision to move forward with a special session.”
Two items that will be on the special session agenda relate to and involve the decision package relating to the Main Street Program and Wynne Home Arts Center for the fiscal year 13-14 budget and the final passing of the budget document.
The special session will begin at 6 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at City Hall, located at 1212 Avenue M.
