“State of the City Address” Reflects City’s Success

Published on October 18, 2013 by Larry Crippen

A big crowd turned out for Thursday night’s “State of the City” address hosted by the Chamber of Commerce at the Walker County Storm Shelter.

City department representatives were on hand at booths to talk with citizens and provide information.

Chamber Chairman of the Board Cindy Pierce was the emcee for the event. Mayor Mac Woodward introduced the main speaker for the event, City Manager Matt Benoit.

From the very beginning of his presentation Benoit was very supportive of the City’s staff . . . .

City Manager Benoit covered all the municipal bases last night from Economic Development like the new Hobby Lobby coming to town to Infrastructure like the new TRA plant. He was happy with the outcome of the City Budget with no tax rate increase. He was also pleased with cuts like those to insurance . . . .

Mr. Benoit, looking to the future, said, “There is a prevailing belief in this community that growth is coming.”
