Stop Sign Issue Discussed in Council Session

Published on August 22, 2013 by Larry Crippen

At this week’s session of the Huntsville City Council, stop signs which have been in place at the intersection of Spring Drive and Winter Way for 18 years was an issue for discussion. The City recently evaluated whether there should just be one stop sign at the intersection instead of three.

At the council session local residents expressed concern for their safety, if two of the stop signs are removed.

Neighborhood resident Sarah Swicegood let her feelings be known to councilmembers . . . .

Area resident Christina Hanson also expressed her opposition to the removal of the stop signs.

According to the City, engineering evaluations determined that the two other signs weren’t necessary at the intersection.

City officials presented arguments on both sides of the issue and will continue to look into it. Members of the Council could vote on the issue September 3rd.
