TDCJ Escapee Juan Salaz Captured

Published on February 07, 2013 by Larry Crippen

Thirty-seven-year-old Juan Salaz, who escaped from TDCJ’s Garza East Unit in Beeville in 1997, has been captured in Mexico.

Before escaping, Salaz was serving three concurrent 35-year sentences for two counts of attempted capital murder of a police officer and aggravated kidnapping with a deadly weapon. He had accomplished his escape by climbing over three 16-foot security fences topped with razor wire.

Wednesday, Salaz remained in Mexico awaiting extradition. He is also now facing a felony escape charge.
