Two New Waverly Men Die in Accident

Published on April 15, 2013 by Larry Crippen

Early Sunday morning, two New Waverly men were found dead inside a car near the intersection of North Clark Road and Mt. Zion Road in northern Montgomery County.

Thirty-eight-year-old Jerry Hamm, the driver, was found dead along with 23-year-old James Sumrall. In the single vehicle crash, investigators report that Hamm was headed east on Mt. Zion and failed to negotiate a curve. After overcorrecting, his vehicle slid sideways down North Clark Road almost 250 feet before hitting several trees. Hamm’s vehicle then rolled upside down against a large tree which caused the vehicle to almost split in two.

An autopsy was to be conducted at Montgomery County Forensic Center.
