TxDOT to Use “Rumble Strips” in Work Zones

Published on April 04, 2013 by Larry Crippen

The next time you’re on the roadway and see all those orange highway construction signs, you may notice something different.  The difference will be rumble strips in the work zone.  Rumble strips are an array of 3/4-of-an-inch high strips placed in the traffic lane to produce a slight bump under the car’s tires.  They are placed across the lane to help alert drivers to changing road conditions in construction work zones.  The strips have been tested and pose no danger to the vehicles driving over them.  TxDOT and their contractors will begin to use the rumble strips in their work zones soon.
