Vaughn Ross to be Executed Tonight

Published on July 18, 2013 by Larry Crippen

Forty-one-year-old Vaughn Ross is scheduled to be executed at the Walls unit in Huntsville at six this evening.

In 2002, Ross was sentenced to death for the murder of 53-year-old Douglas Birdsall and 18-year-old Viola Ross McVade.

Ms. McVade was the sister of Ross’s girlfriend, and Birdsall was the Texas Tech Library Dean. Witnesses said Ross had been in a continuing dispute with Ms. McVade, and Birdsall wound up in a bad situation.

Ross will be the 502nd inmate executed in the state.
