SHSU’S ANNUAL ORANGE AND WHITE SPRING FOOTBALL GAME IS LESS THAN 3 WEEKS AWAY, AND THIS YEAR, IT WILL BE HELD AT PRITCHETT FIELD; PRITCHETT FIELD WAS THE SITE FOR THE BEARKAT FOOTBALL GAMES UNTIL THE OPENING OF BOWERS STADIUM IN 1986. THE BEARKATS HAVE WON BACK-TO-BACK SOUTHLAND CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIPS TO REACH THE NCAA DIVISION I NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME. HEAD COACH WILLIE FRITZ AND HIS STAFF ARE RETURNING 41 LETTERMEN, INCLUDING 12 STARTERS FROM LAST YEARS SQUAD THAT ROLLED UP AN 11-AND-4 MARK. THE ORANGE AND WHITE GAME IS SLATED FOR THURSDAY, APRIL 18TH AT 7PM.

ON THE DIAMONDS…SAM HOUSTON STATE USED AN EIGHT RUN THIRD TO REBOUND SATURDAY TO BEAR THE SFA LUMBERJACKS 14-4; THE BEARKATS TOOK TWO-OUT-OF-THREE TO WIN THE SERIES FROM SFA. NEXT UP FOR THE BEARKATS WILL BE THE UNIVERSITY OF HOUSTON TUESDAY NIGHT AT 6:30PM.

AND TAKING A QUICK LOOK AT MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL, THE SEASON OPENED YESTERDAY, AND THE HOUSTON ASTRO’S GOT THEIR FIRST WIN AS AN AMERICAN LEAGUE FRANCHISE AS THEY BEAT THE TEXAS RANGERS 8-2. THE ASTRO’S CONTINUE THE SEASON OPENING TUESDAY NIGHT AGAINST THE RANGERS.
