THE SHSU SOFTBALL TEAM WALTZED TO A 10-0 RUN-RULE VICTORY OVER CENTRAL ARKANSAS IN ACTION SUNDAY AFTERNOON AT THE BEARKAT SOFTBALL COMPLEX. THE VICTORY GAVE SAM HOUSTON A WIN IN THE CONFERENCE-OPENING SERIES AS THE KATS WON 2 OF THE 3 GAMES OVER THE WEEKEND. NEXT ACTION THE SOFTBALL TEAM IS SET FOR WEDNESDAY AT HOME WITH A NON-CONFERENCE TILT AGAINST THE HOUSTON COUGARS.

IN BASEBALL TODAY, THE NEW WAVERLY BULLDOGS WILL PLAY AT HEMPSTEAD AT 7PM….WHILE THE ALPHA OMEGA ACADEMY LIONS WILL BE AT HOME IN A 3PM START AGAINST CONROE CALVARY BAPTIST.

THE SHSU MEN’S GOLF TEAM OPENS PLAY TODAY IN THE CARTER PLANTATION INTERCOLLEGIATE TOURNAMENT IN SPRINGFIELD, LA…ON THE PGA TOUR ON SUNDAY, KEVIN STREELMAN PICKED UP HIS INITIAL VICTORY IN THE TAMPA BAY INVITATIONAL IN PALM HARBOR BEACH, FLA.

THE NCAA MEN’S BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT FIELD HAS BEEN SET WITH LOUISVILLE, GONZAGA, KANSAS & INDIANA AS THE NO. 1 SEEDS. SOUTHLAND CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT CHAMPION NORTHWESTERN STATE EARNED A NO. 14 SEED, AND WILL FACE FLORIDA ON FRIDAY IN AUSTIN….AND, ON AN ADDITIONAL NOTE, THIS SEASON MARKS THE 1ST TIME SINCE 1977 THAT THE STATE OF TEXAS WILL HAVE NO SCHOOL REPRESENTING THE LONE STAR IN THE BIG DANCE…THE STEPHEN F. MEANWHILE, THE SHSU BEARKAT WOMEN, RUNNERS-UP IN THE SOUTHLAND’S WOMEN’S TOURNAMENT, ARE ANXIOUSLY AWAITING WORD ON WHETHER THEY WILL RECEIVE A BID TO PLAY IN THE WOMEN’S N-I-T. THEY SHOULD LEARN THEIR FATE LATER TODAY.

IN THE NBA ON SUNDAY, THE HOUSTON ROCKETS WERE TROUNCED 108-78 BY GOLDEN STATE, WHILE DALLAS LOST TO OKLAHOMA CITY 107-101….TONIGHT, THE MAVERICKS WILL VISIT ATLANTA AT 6:30.
