THE SHSU BEARKATS ARE STILL BASKING IN THE GLOW OF THEIR 49-34 VICTORY OVER NO. 2-RANKED EASTERN WASHINGTON THIS PAST SATURDAY AT RAIN-DRENCHED BOWERS STADIUM. WITH THE VICTORY, THE BEARKATS MOVED TO 4-&-1 FOR THE SEASON WITH AN OFF WEEK ON THE SCHEDULE BEFORE OPENING SOUTHLAND CONFERENCE PLAY OCT. 12 AT HOME AGAINST LAMAR. SATURDAY’S VICTORY NETTED A NATIONAL HONOR FOR BEARKAT ALL-AMERICAN RUNNING BACK TIMOTHY FLANDERS WHO WAS NAMED NATIONAL “OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK” BY A WEBSITE KNOWN AS COLLEGE SPORTS MADNESS.COM. FLANDERS CARRIED 32 TIMES FOR 280 YARDS AND A PAIR OF TOUCHDOWNS AGAINST EASTERN.

IN OTHER SPORTS…THE SHSU BEARKAT WOMEN’S SOCCER TEAM HAD A GOOD SUNDAY, WINNING ON THE ROAD WITH A 1-0 OVERTIME VICTORY AGAINST MCNEESE STATE IN LAKE CHARLES, LA. THE WIN IMPROVES SAM HOUSTON’S RECORD TO 2-&-1 IN SOUTHLAND CONFERENCE ACTION. NEXT UP FOR THE KATS IS A MATCH AT NORTHWESTERN STATE ON FRIDAY.
