ANOTHER SOUTHLAND CONFERENCE REGULAR-SEASON TITLE COULD BE IN THE STARS FOR THE SHSU BEARKAT BASEBALL TEAM. THE KATS WILL HOST CENTRAL ARKANSAS IN A 3-GAME SET BEGINNING TODAY AT DON SANDERS STADIUM. THE BEARKATS HAVE A 2-GAME LEAD IN THE CONFERENCE GOING INTO THE FINAL WEEKEND. AN SHSU VICTORY TONIGHT COMBINED WITH A LOSS BY TEXAS A&M-CORPUS CHRISTI WOULD GIVE SAM HOUSTON THE OUTRIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP. FAILING THAT, THE KATS HAVE ONLY TO WIN 2 OF 3 FROM THE BEARS IN THE NEXT 3 DAYS TO ASSURE THEMSELVES OF THE TITLE. GAME TIMES TODAY & FRIDAY ARE 6:30PM; SATURDAY’S REGULAR-SEASON FINALE WILL BEGIN AT 1PM.

THE SHSU BEARKAT FOOTBALL TEAM HAS A NEW DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR. MIKE COLLINS, WHO HAS BEEN THE ASSISTANT HEAD COACH & DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR AT McNEESE STATE OF THE SOUTHLAND CONFERENCE, HAS JOINED THE BEARKAT STAFF TO WORK FOR HEAD COACH WILLIE FRITZ. COLLINS REPLACES SCOTT STOKER WHO LEFT THE KATS’ D-C JOB TO TAKE A POSTITION WITH TEXAS-EL PASO.
