FOR THE 2ND YEAR IN A ROW, THE HUNTSVILLE HORNET BOYS GOLF TEAM HAS CAPTURED THE DISTRICT 18-4A BOYS CHAMPIONSHIP. PLAYING AT PEBBLE CREEK COUNTRY CLUB IN COLLEGE STATION, THE HORNETS SHOT A 2ND-ROUND SCORE 0F326 ON TUESDAY TO PAVE THE WAY FOR A FINAL TOTAL OF 627, 24 SHOTS BETTER THAN 2ND-PLACE MONTGOMERY GOLD. WITH THE DISTRICT TITLE IN HAND, THE HORNETS WILL HEAD TO THE REGION 3 TOURNAMENT APRIL 17 & 18 AT RAVEN NEST GOLF CLUB. ALSO, WEATHER PERMITTING TODAY, THE HUNTSVILLE LADY HORNETS WILL TEE OFF IN THE 1ST OF 2 ROUNDS OF THE 18-4A GIRLS CHAMPIONSHIP. THE TOURNAMENT WILL TAKE PLACE AT OAKHURST GOLF CLUB IN PORTER.

THE SHSU BEARKAT BASEBALL TEAM HAD THEIR 5-GAME WINNING STREAK BROKEN TUESDAY NIGHT. THE KATS FELL 4-1 ON THE ROAD TO 24TH-RANKED TEXAS A&M IN COLLEGE STATION. THE KATS WILL GET BACK INTO SOUTHLAND CONFERENCE ACTION THIS WEEKEND WITH A 3-GAME SERIES AT LAMAR BEGINNING FRIDAY.

IN SOFTBALL, THE HUNTSVILLE LADY HORNETS LOST A CLOSE ONE, FALLING TO MAGNOLIA WEST 5-4 AT KATE BARR ROSS PARK. THE LOSS DROPPED THE HUNTSVILLE GIRLS’ DISTRICT 18-4A RECORD TO 8-&-5. NEXT ACTION IS SCHEDULED FOR FRIDAY AT WALLER.

THE DISTRICT 18-4A TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIP MEET WAS ORIGINALLY SCHEDULED TO BEGIN TODAY AT MAGNOLIA WEST HIGH SCHOOL. HOWEVER, WITH THE THREAT OF INCLEMENT WEATHER ON THE HORIZON, DISTRICT OFFICIALS HAVE DECIDED TO MOVE THE MEET TO THURSDAY & FRIDAY.

THERE’S RODEO ACTION AT THE WALKER COUNTY FAIRGROUNDS TONIGHT. OPEN BARREL RACING IS SET TO GET UNDERWAY AT 6PM AT THE FAIRGROUNDS ARENA, TO BE FOLLOWED AT 8 BY EXHIBITION BARRELS.
