Texas Schools Litigation Issue

Published on February 26, 2014 by Larry Crippen

At last week’s session of the HISD Board of Trustees, Superintendent Johnson updated everyone on the status of the litigation involved between a multitude of Texas school districts suing the state. He said, “The school litigation case related to school finance is ended. The retrial of that is now back in the hands of Judge Dietz in Travis County court in Austin” . . . .

Superintendent Johnson said that Representative Otto told him that the legislature may get to the issue in 2016 which is not a legislative year. A special session would be required for the legislature to move on the issue then. So, that means it may be 2017 before the lawmakers take a look at the issue.

Superintendent Johnson said, “Don’t anticipate any change in the basic structure of funding for at least two to three, maybe, four years from now.”
