Man Wanted In Home Invasion Burglary

On May 19th the Walker County Sheriff’s Office responded to a Home Invasion burglary in Phelps, in Eastern Walker County, where a 40-year-old homeowner was shot and critically injured.

During the course of the investigation, Sheriff’s Office Investigators have arrested 4 adults and 1 juvenile. The investigation is still ongoing but the Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in locating one of the suspects in the shooting. 18-year-old DeShawn Marcel Bates is currently wanted on a First Degree Felony Burglary of a Habitation charge issued out of Justice of the Peace Precinct 1 in Walker County. DeShawn Bates could be in the Huntsville, New Waverly or the Montgomery, Texas area. Bates is described as a black male, approximately 5-foot 5-inches tall, weighing 162 pounds. He has black hair with brown eyes. His last known address was The Cedarwood Apartments located at 2201 Bobby K. Marks in Huntsville.

The Walker County Sheriff’s Office and Crimestoppers is currently offering up to a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of DeShawn Bates.
