New Waverly Firefighter Jimmy Williams reports to us that Sunday evening, just after 8, on-duty New Waverly Firefighters were returning from a medical emergency East of New Waverly when they were dispatched to a major accident on Highway 75 South of New Waverly.
The first New Waverly crew arrived on the scene in less than 5 minutes and found that a car and a pickup truck had collided nearly head-on just inside Walker County near Buckner Road. The male driver of the car was pinned under the dash and steering wheel with major injuries.
Two female victims in the pickup were not trapped, but did suffer non-life threatening injuries and were transported by Walker County EMS to Conroe Regional Medical Center for evaluation.
New Waverly Firefighters used their hydraulic rescue tools of “Jaws,” as they are commonly referred to, to quickly remove the door and roll the dash up and away from the trapped victim. The victim was then transported by EMS to the New Waverly Helipad, where an Engine from Huntsville and New Waverly had set up a landing zone. The male victim was transported via Lifeflight helicopter to the Houston Medical Center for further treatment.
Troopers with the Texas Department of Public Safety are investigating the cause of the accident.
