Hurricane season is underway now and Texas Commissioner of Agriculture Todd Staples tells us agriculture is “particularly critical during an emergency . . . .”
Commissioner Staples says, “This is a big part of logistics when you have literally sometimes hundreds of thousands of people that are displaced.”
Staples says its been a few years since the program has been called on. He said, “It was a big help to families and individuals affected by Hurricanes Ike and Gustav in 2008 and Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005.
