“Breaking the Cycle of Abuse” Event a Success

Published on January 20, 2014 by Larry Crippen

The “Breaking the Cycle of Abuse” fundraising event for SAAFE House put on by Legacy Martial Arts in Huntsville was a big success.

Local businesses along with individual donors sponsored the event, kicking in $5 for every board broken. Boards were broken every nine seconds which is the same rate for women being assaulted in the U-S.

Those splitting the boards in two included Legacy Martial Arts owner Don Barnard, his wife Frances and SHSU Professor and martial arts student Renee James.

Nine-hundred boards worth of wood broken were also put in paper bags to be sold as firewood.
