Council Discusses Traditional Bid Vs. Construction Manager Concept

At this week’s Huntsville City Council session, Fitzpatrick Architect’s Trey Greer explained a new approach for the City in their hiring of contractors for capitol improvement endeavors called the “Construction Manager at Risk”

As opposed to the “Traditional” bid way, City Manager Matt Benoit pointed out that the “Construction Manager” method reduces the chance of going over budget.

Often, with the “Construction Manager” approach, most of the funds remaining following the completion of a project go back to the owner.

The building of the Boys and Girls Club of Walker County Community Safe Room may be the first area project built in this way. Matt Benoit will introduce the proposal to the City in a month or two.
