Defense Secretary Hagel Questioned By Armed Services Committee

Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel spent five hours Wednesday fielding questions from the House Armed Services Committee about the recent exchange of five Taliban leaders for Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl.

Several of the nation’s legislators were not happy on being left out of the prisoner swap talks. Democratic Representative Adam Smith of Washington said, “There’s no reason why that 30-day notice couldn’t have been given to the leadership in Congress.”

Republican Congressman John Kline expressed his and others frustration with Secretary Hagel’s tap-dancing around the negotiating with terrorists issue . . . .
