Around 5:30 PM Sunday, the New Waverly Fire Department was sent to a major accident on FM 1375 East about two miles west of New Waverly. Upon arrival, they found a 2001 Mustang had impacted a tree. Both occupants of the vehicle were dead.
DPS Trooper Monijaras with DPS Walker County investigated the accident. According to reports, the vehicle had left a nearby private driveway and was headed eastbound on FM 1375 at an unsafe speed when the driver encountered a curve. The Mustang left the roadway, crossing a bar ditch and crashed into a large tree on the driver’s side.
Justice of the Peace Mark Holt was called to the scene and pronounced the driver, John David Horton, age 20, of Huntsville deceased. Also pronounced dead was the passenger, Dori Rose Blume, 20, of Huntsville.
Sam Houston Funeral Home was called to transport the victims.
