Governor Rick Perry was indicted this weekend for allegedly abusing his veto authority by trying to coerce Travis County District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg to leave office because of a drunk driving arrest by threatening to veto $7.5 milion over two years for the public integrity unit which is under her leadership.

The governor’s general counsel, Mary Anne Wiley, said Friday evening that the governor’s actions were permissable under the law.

The indictment includes felony counts of abuse of official capacity and coercion of a public servant.
