During the Special Called Meeting of the HISD Board of Trustees last night, Superintendent Steve Johnson announced that he will be retiring later this summer.
Johnson commented that he “felt the timing was right.” He felt that if a bond for future improvement was eventually passed that someone needed to be in place for the process as well as the implementation, and as he approached the age of 65 he did not wish to commit to that amount of time on the project.
He also wished to spend more time with his family.
Dr. Johnson’s last day will be August 15th. He has ably guided the district for the past 3 1/2 years.
