I-45 Bridge Cage Discussed in Past

Published on January 09, 2014 by Larry Crippen

According to a recent article published in the Huntsville Item, there are no plans to build a cage over the I-45 Highway 30 Overpass.

On December 22nd, a 28-year-old man jumped to his death from the overpass. In December of 2010, a 21-year-old Chinese immigrant jumped from the overpass into traffic and was killed by an 18-wheeler.

Police officials have reportedly discussed building a protective cage over the bridge, but HPD Lieutenant Jim Barnes has said that to “his knowledge ” they have not made the request to TxDOT.

Also, TxDOT spokesperson Bob Colwell has been quoted as saying there aren’t any plans “to erect structural modifications” to bridges such as these.
