“Lone Survivor” Opens Today

Published on January 10, 2014 by Larry Crippen

The movie about local Navy Seal hero Marcus Luttrell’s ambush by over 100 Taliban fighters in Afghanistan, “Lone Survivor,” opens today at Huntsville Cinema 10.

In 2005, Luttrell was the lone survivor among his team members of enemy forces in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan where he suffered a gunshot wound, shrapnel wounds, fractures and a broken back. He was eventually sheltered by local villagers who helped notify American officials who rescued him.

Luttrell, who founded the Lone Survivor foundation to help speed the recovery for wounded veterans, received the Navy Cross and two Purple Hearts.
