Monday’s Storm Causes Damage Across Our Area

Monday, severe weather across Walker County caused power outages. lightning strikes, flash flooding   and road closings.

The strong winds downed trees in several areas. A stranded motorist at Bobby K. Marks Drive and Bearkat Boulevard was helped out by local firefighters. Other low-lying areas like the intersection of FM 1791 and Highway 75 North were affected by flash flooding.

It’s been reported that lightning was the cause of an electrical short that resulted in smoke filling Bluebonnet Antiques on the square. HPD, the Fire Department and EMS closed 11th Street between Sam Houston Avenue and University, turned off power, and checked nearby stores. No injuries were reported.
