The New Waverly 4th of July fire department fundraiser was a huge success.
Good food, good weather and a successful fundraiser marked the 21st anniversary of the popular community event.
Friday’s events began that morning with over 700 residents sharing a BBQ lunch at the St. Joseph’s Hall in New Waverly. Many of them stayed for a live auction that featured over 70 items, raising thousands of dollars to support the NWVFD. Firefighters and their family members sold raffle tickets for a number of prizes including a Honda 4 Wheeler, Big Screen TV and Stainless Steel BBQ pit.
All told, this year’s 4th of July efforts surpassed last years record by over $5000, eventually raising $38,500, all of which will be used to purchase much needed equipment and safety gear for the New Waverly Volunteer Fire Department.
