“Operation Christmas Child” Begins Monday

Published on November 14, 2014 by Larry Crippen

Samaritan’s Purse Regional Manager for our area, Matt McClelland, informs us that their “Operation Christmas Child” is a special gift collecting operation for kids. What they do is collect shoe boxes that are packed by individuals, families and church groups with things for children–gifts, candy, toys and hygiene items, then they are dropped off locally.

Huntsville collection sites hope to collect 20,000 gift-filled shoe boxes during the National Collection Week November 17th through 24th. In Huntsville one of the local drop off points is First Baptist Church, on Avenue J, between the 17th and 24th of this month, where they’ll take gift-filled shoe box donations Monday through Friday 4 to 6 PM, Saturday 12 to 3, Sunday 2 to 4 and Monday 10 to 11 AM.

Matt tells us, “You can also get involved by donating. Every year we have lots of people who can pack a shoe box but they can’t afford to pay for the shipping. So, you can go to our website, www.samaritanspurse.org, and make a donation to cover shipping for people who can’t afford to do that. You can also go to their website and build a box virtually online . . . . ”
