Lawyers for convicted murderer Robert James Campbell want to stop his execution tonight in Huntsville because they say he could go through the same ordeal an inmate in Oklahoma experienced. During his attempted execution in Oklahoma, Clayton Lockett passed away from an apparent heart attack after officials there stopped his execution following the failure of an intravenous injection.
Campbell’s attorneys want to know the source of the drug used here. They also say Campbell is mentally impaired and not eligible for execution. The Texas Death Row inmate has two appeals pending with the 5th U-S Court of Appeals.
The State of Texas refuses to disclose where it gets its execution drug. Texas does not use the same drugs as the state of Oklahoma.
