Following the departure of winning Head SHSU Football Coach Willie Fritz to coach at Georgia Southern, Athletics Director Bobby Williams reports, “The search for Sam Houston’s next head football coach has already begun.”
Williams said he and Coach Fritz “have worked the past two weeks on a transition plan in case this happened.”
He said one of their goals with Fritz “was to make Sam Houston State a program that was in the FCS national conversation every year.” He said, they’ve succeeded at that.
Williams said, their “search criteria for a new coach will involve national playoff and championship experience with preferred head-coaching experience.”
He said, they also want “candidates with demonstrated strong academic leadership that enhances the student-athlete experience.” He also said he wants the candidate to have “the ability to connect with Sam Houston’s athletic and university community to enhance our Bearkat Champions Fund.”
