Shotgun Fred Barbecue Showdown

The First Annual Shotgun Fred Barbecue Showdown is scheduled for February 27th through March 1st in Huntsville at the Walker County Fairgrounds. The fairgrounds will have 92 spaces, forty-by-forty feet, that have water and electricity available. Contestants from all over the country will be competing by Kansas City Barbecue Society rules.

The goal is to raise scholarship funds for Fred Pirkle’s scholarship commitment to SHSU students. Pirkle’s longtime friend, Ben Pruitt, talked about the late Fred Pirkle who committed $25 million to the university and about the event to local commissioners last week . . . .
