During this week’s regular session of the Huntsville City Council, councilmembers heard an assessment of the City’s buildings from Greg Wine with the Huitt-Zollars architecture and engineering firm.
Wine said, “For a city that has the majority of their portfolio that’s over 35 years, the facilities are actually in fair to good condition . . . .”
Their recommendations–“Prepare a space plan and building program for consolidating the functions at City Hall and the Service Center. Prepare a space plan and building program for a Public Safety Building to house the Police Department and the Fire Department Administration. Prepare preliminary plans for the renovation of the MLK Building, the Warehouse/Garage and the Water & Wastewater Treatment Plants.”
The City Manager, staff and councilmembers are looking ahead to deal with these building issues in the future.
