The City of Huntsville Hears Assessment of Buildings

Published on May 23, 2014 by Larry Crippen

During this week’s regular session of the Huntsville City Council, councilmembers heard an assessment of the City’s buildings from Greg Wine with the Huitt-Zollars architecture and engineering firm.

Wine said, “For a city that has the majority of their portfolio that’s over 35 years, the facilities are actually in fair to good condition . . . .”

Their recommendations–”Prepare a space plan and building program for consolidating the functions at City Hall and the Service Center. Prepare a space plan and building program for a Public Safety Building to house the Police Department and the Fire Department Administration.  Prepare preliminary plans for the renovation of the MLK Building, the Warehouse/Garage and the Water & Wastewater Treatment Plants.”

The City Manager, staff and councilmembers are looking ahead to deal with these building issues in the future.
