Published on May 23, 2014 by Glenn Edwards

THE START OF YESTERDAY’S OPENING ROUND OF THE SOUTHLAND CONFERENCE BASEBALL TOURNAMENT DIDN’T LOOK GOOD FOR THE SAM HOUSTON STATE BEARKATS, BUT BY THE END OF THE GAME, IT WAS BUSINESS AS NORMAL AS THE KATS WERE ABLE TO OVERCOME A 3-OH DEFICIT WITH A 7-RUN 4TH FRAME TO BEAT THE LAMAR CARDINALS 10-4. THE KATS WILL HIT THE DIAMOND LATER THIS AFTERNOON FOR THE NEXT ROUND OF THE TOURNAMENT AS THEY’LL FACE OFF AGAINST THE SOUTHEASTERN LOUISIANA LIONS. FIRST PITCH IS SLATED FOR 4PM AND WILL BE BROADCAST ON 104.9 THE HITS AND 1049THEHITS.COM.

THREE SENIORS FROM HUNTSVILLE HIGH SCHOOL MADE ATHLETIC COMMITMENTS TO THREE DIFFERENT COLLEGES WEDNESDAY. AUDIE WYATT, THE CLASS 4-A STATE CHAMPION IN POLE VAULTING THIS PAST SEASON AS COMMITED TO TEXAS A&M TO COMPLETE FOR THE AGGIES TRACK & FIELD TEAM NEXT YEAR, WHILE REGION 3 QUALIFIED CHANDLER LIVINGSTON IS MOVING ON TO HARDIN-SIMMONS TO PLAY TENNIS AND SABRINA JOHNSON, A STAR PITCHER FOR THE LADY HORNETS SOFTBALL SQUAD THIS PAST SEASON, IS JOINING PRAIRIE VIEW A&M TO PLAY SOFTBALL.
