IN LOCAL HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL ON TUESDAY, THE HUNTSVILLE HORNETS DROPPED A LOW-SCORING DECISION AS THEY FELL TO MONTGOMERY 48-38 AT PAUL BOHAN HORNET GYM. NEXT ACTION FOR THE HORNETS IS SET FOR FRIDAY AT BRYAN RUDDER.

IN COLLEGIATE FOOTBALL, SHSU HAS PLACED 5 PLAYERS ON THE 2013 ACADEMIC ALL-SOUTHLAND CONFERENCE FOOTBALL TEAM TO LEAD THE LEAGUE IN ACADEMIC SELECTIONS. QUARTERBACK BRIAN BELL, WIDE RECEIVER TORRANCE WILLIAMS, RUNNING BACKS TIMOTHY FLANDERS & KESHAWN HILL AND LINEBACKER ERIC FIEILO ALL WERE HONORED TUESDAY BY THE CONFERENCE.

IN THE SOUTHLAND CONFERENCE, OFFICIALS WITH ORAL ROBERTS UNIVERSITY HAVE ANNOUNCED THE EAGLES WILL FORFEIT 2 UPCOMING CONFERENCE MEN’S BASKETBALL GAMES IN ORDER TO COMPLY WITH NCAA RULES RELATED TO NOT PLAYING MORE THAN 4 NON-DIVISION I SCHOOLS IN A SEASON. O-R-U WILL FORFEIT THEIR JAN. 16 & 18 GAMES AGAINST ABILENE CHRISTIAN & INCARNATE WORD. THOSE 2 SCHOOLS ARE NEW MEMBERS OF THE SOUTHLAND, BUT ARE STILL CONSIDERED DIVISION II UNTIL THEY PLAY THIS SEASON AS TRANSITIONAL MEMBERS OF THE LEAGUE.
