Council Discusses Economic Development In Workshop

Published on January 07, 2015 by Larry Crippen

Tuesday, in a workshop, Huntsville City Councilmembers discussed possible ballot language to create an Economic Development fund to include eligible revenue increases as well as expenditure reductions.

In his presentation, City Manager Matt Benoit talked about three different methods for the creation of an economic development fund.

Two of the ways involved would bring down the sales tax that is utilized to bring down the property tax.

The third method is a plan conceived by Mr. Benoit, who explained the ballot language to councilmembers . . . .

Benoit reminded councilmembers that if they were to hold a May 9th election on the economic development issue, they would need to get the necessary formalities underway by February 27th.
