Wounded Warrior Banquet Held Thursday Night

A patriotic crowd filled the Walker County Fairgrounds for a sold-out Wounded Warriors banquet Thursday night. The banquet is a fundraiser for the Warrior Family & Support Center in San Antonio.

Local speakers included veterans Tom Fordyce and Jimmy Wood.

Retired Lt. Colonel David Yebra defined the role of soldiers in the words of General Douglas Macarthur to a corps of cadets in 1963 . . . .

 

Soldiers of all wars were honored, from the two world wars to the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. There was a special slide presentation honoring Vietnam veterans.

Vietnam-era U-S Navy veteran and Executive Director of the Lone Survivor Foundation founded by Navy Seal Marcus Luttrell, Terry Young, had the Vietnam veterans stand to be honored . . . .


And finally, Director of the Warrior and Family Support Center, Judith Markelz, emphasized the importance of a wounded warrior’s family . . . .

 

A special presentation honoring the mothers and other relatives of American soldiers who gave their lives for their country was also held.
