Meeting Held on I-14 Thursday

Published on September 02, 2016 by Larry Crippen

Thursday afternoon County commissioners, City councilmembers, representatives from TxDOT and the Gulf Coast Strategic Highway Coalition met for a discussion on the proposed Interstate 14 project. The interstate, in early planning stages, will link several military bases from Fort Polk to Fort Bliss connecting them with each other and connecting with access to seaports. It will also provide a transportation pathway for the growing amount of freight and travelers in central and Southeast Texas. I-14 would come through the general area of Huntsville on an east and west linkup.

Gulf Coast Strategic Highway Coalition Chairman John Thompson talked about the “original deal” for I-14 . . . .

The fee for being a part of the Coalition is $5,000 annually. Thompson wanted the local governmental entities to join, and he summed up why . . . .

Future membership will be considered by both commissioners and councilmembers.
