Officers in Texas, Missouri and Florida Shot Over Weekend

San Antonio Police Chief William McManus reported in a press conference that 50-year-old Detective Benjamin Marconi was shot and killed during a traffic stop Sunday outside police headquarters.

While the officer was in his vehicle filling out a ticket, a vehicle pulled in behind him. The driver of the vehicle came up to the driver’s side of Officer Marconi’s car and shot him in the head. He next reached inside the vehicle and shot the officer a second time.

In St. Louis Sunday, a police sergeant was shot in the face twice in an ambush. The 46-year-old officer, who has been on the force for 20 years, was in critical condition but is expected to live. The shooting suspect was killed after shooting at officers.

Also Sunday, in Sanibel, Florida a suspect was in custody after shooting a police officer. During a traffic stop, the suspect fired at the officer then fled.

Later the suspect was wounded by police at a home a couple miles from where the officer was shot. The officer was treated at a local hospital and released.
