IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL TODAY, THE RED-HOT SHSU BEARKATS WILL RECEIVE A BIG TEST IN THEIR FINAL NON-CONFERENCE GAME OF THE REGULAR SEASON. THE KATS, WHO HAVE WON 27 OF THEIR LAST 34 GAMES, WILL BE IN COLLEGE STATION TO TAKE ON THE NO. 2-RANKED TEXAS A&M AGGIES IN A 6:35PM 1ST PITCH THAT WILL BE TELECAST LIVE ON THE SEC NETWORK PLUS. ADDITIONALLY, BEARKAT CLOSER GREG BELTON HAS BEEN HONORED BY THE SOUTHLAND CONFERENCE AS THE LEAGUE’S PITCHER OF THE WEEK. BELTON REGISTERED A PAIR OF SAVES AND A VICTORY IN LAST WEEKEND’S KAT SERIES AT LAMAR.

A NEW ASTROTURF SYSTEM WILL BE INSTALLED AT SHSU’S BOWERS STADIUM THIS SUMMBER. THE COST OF THE INSTALLATION WILL BE $525-THOUSAND. THE NEW SURFACE WILL REPLACE THE CURRENT ASTROTURF FIELD THAT WAS INSTALLED IN 2007. THE PROJECT IS THE LATEST IN A SERIES OF UPGRADES TO THE UNIVERSITY’S INTERCOLLEGIATE ATHLETIC FACILITIES. THE PROJECT IS EXPECTED TO BE COMPLETED IN PLENTY OF TIME FOR THE OPENING OF THE 2016 FOOTBALL SEASON.
