Huge Outdoor Marijuana Growing Operation Busted

Published on June 13, 2017 by Larry Crippen

On Friday, June 9th at 3:10 pm, the Walker County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a possible narcotics call off of FM 2989. Upon arrival, Walker County deputies along with narcotics investigators met with the complainant, an employee of the property owner, who stated that while working on the property he had located what appeared to be marijuana plants. Walker County deputies along with narcotics investigators were given permission to enter the property. As they located the marijuana plants they spotted a Hispanic man walking towards them, and they immediately announced they were with the Walker County Sheriff’s Office.

The man then fled into the heavily wooded area. As additional units arrived to assist with the search for the man, officers managed to locate 5,255 marijuana plants, with an estimated value of $7,866,000 dollars. While searching the entire area, a camp site was found that appeared to be a current living/shelter space. At this time, the man has not been located. Due to the individual fleeing from the deputies, they were not able to identify him. He is described as 6’2”, with black hair, and last seen wearing blue jeans and a light colored t-shirt, possibly in his late 20’s or early 30’s.

The investigation is ongoing at this time. The Sheriff’s Office would like to ask the public if anyone has seen any related activity or may have information regarding the incident, to please contact The Walker County Sheriff’s Office at 936-435-2400.
