Huntsville Police Department Investigates Burglary

Published on April 14, 2017 by Larry Crippen

On April 12th at approximately 10:50 p.m., officers from the Huntsville Police Department responded to a report of a burglary in progress in the 1900 block of Greenbriar Drive, within the Elkins Lake subdivision.

Upon arrival at the private residence, officers met with the homeowner who advised them that when he returned home he discovered the back door had been forced open. The homeowner returned to his vehicle, retrieved a handgun, and entered his home where he was confronted by two burglars. The home owner fired several shots striking the burglars. One of the burglars died on scene, and the other fled and was later found at Herman Memorial Hospital with gunshot wounds. He was in critical condition Thursday. Police were waiting for the suspect to recover in order to question him.

It appears that the residence was not chosen randomly but was specifically selected, and that narcotics may be involved. An investigation is ongoing.
