Residential Childrens Operation Discussed by Council

Published on January 11, 2017 by Larry Crippen

Last night, the Huntsville City Council Chamber was packed with people concerned about the possibility of a general residential operation for childcare services coming to their neighborhood.

The proposed home for the services was that of Bobby and Barbara Rigsby on Sumac Road and would house children with a history of personal issues from learning issues to problems with violence.

At the outset of the meeting, Position #4 Councilmember Keith Olson informed those in attendance what had occurred recently in regard to the proposed home . . .

Mrs. Rigsby, who along with her husband had dedicated their lives to taking care of foster children, apologized to those at the meeting . . . .

Finally, after much discussion, First Assistant District Attorney for Walker County, Stephanie Stroud, addressed the issue . . . .

The council passed a resolution declaring the proposed facility a prohibited operation in a neighborhood conservation district.
