WITH JUST ABOUT A MONTH LEFT IN THE REGULAR SEASON, THE SHSU BEARKAT BASEBALL TEAM HAS BECOME A STUDY IN FRUSTRATION. THE KATS LOST 7-5 TO CENTRAL ARKANSAS ON THE ROAD SUNDAY, DROPPING THEIR 5TH STRAIGHT SOUTHLAND CONFERENCE CONTEST AFTER BEGINNING THE CONFERENCE SEASON WITH 13 STRAIGHT WINS. SUNDAY’S LOSS COMPLETED A 3-GAME SWEEP FOR THE BEARS OVER SAM HOUSTON, THE BEARKATS’ 1ST SWEEP LOSS SINCE 2014. AND THE 5 STRAIGHT LEAGUE SETBACKS MARKS THE WORST CONFERENCE LOSING STREAK FOR SAM SINCE 2011. WITH THE LOSS, THE 2ND-PLACE KATS FELL FURTHER BEHIND LEAGUE-LEADING McNEESE STATE, WITH THE COWBOYS COMING TO HUNTSVILLE FOR A 3-GAME SERIES BEGINNING FRIDAY. SAM HOUSTON IS 3 GAMES BEHIND McNEESE IN THE STANDINGS, AND ONLY 1 GAME AHEAD OF 3RD-PLACE STEPHEN F. AUSTIN. THE KATS WILL BE IN HOUSTON ON TUESDAY FOR A NON-CONFERENCE GAME AGAINST THE U-H COUGARS.

WITH 10 REGULAR-SEASON TOURNAMENTS UNDER ITS BELT, THE SHSU BEARKAT MEN’S GOLF TEAM TURNS THEIR FOCUS THIS WEEK TO THE 54TH SOUTHLAND CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT ON THE DYE COURSE AT STONEBRIDGE RANCH COUNTRY CLUB IN McKINNEY. THE KATS WILL BE SEEKING THEIR 3RD CONFERENCE TITLE IN 4 YEARS DURING THE 3-DAY TOURNAMENT.
