MONDAY 05/15/17 – FORTUNES HAVE TURNED AGAINST THE KATS

FOR THE 5TH CONSECUTIVE YEAR, THE HUNTSVILLE LADY HORNET GOLF TEAM WILL BE COMPETING IN THE CLASS 5A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT. THE HUNTSVILLE GIRLS WILL TEE OFF THIS MORNING IN ROUND 1 THE 2-ROUND TOURNAMENT AT WOLFDANCER GOLF CLUB IN LOST PINES NEAR BASTROP AFTER PLACING 3RD RECENTLY IN THE REGION 3 TOURNAMENT TO QUALIFY FOR STATE.

IN COLLEGIATE TRACK & FIELD, SUNDAY WAS A GOOD DAY FOR THE SHSU TEAMS. THE BEARKAT MEN USED A LATE SURGE AND CAPTURED THE SQUAD’S 1ST SOUTHLAND CONFERENCE OUTDOOR CHAMPIONSHIP SINCE 2006. THE SAM HOUSTON WOMEN’S TEAM FINISHED IN 2ND PLACE IN THE MEET WHICH WAS HELD IN NEW ORLEANS. THE BEARKAT WOMEN FINISHED JUST 1-&-1/2 POINTS BEHIND EVENTUAL CHAMPION STEPHEN F. AUSTIN.

IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL, THE WHEELS HAVE APPEARED TO HAVE FALLEN OFF FOR THE SHSU BEARKATS. THE KATS WATCHED SUNDAY AS HOUSTON BAPTIST COMPLETED A 3-GAME SOUTHLAND CONFERENCE SWEEP. THE HUSKIES WON IN WALK-OFF FASHION WITH A RUN IN THE BOTTOM OF THE 9TH INNING. IT WAS THE 2ND TIME IN 3 GAMES HBU HAD DEFEATED THE KATS WITH A WALK-OFF HIT. WITH THE LOSS, THE KATS ARE 16-&-11 IN CONFERENCE PLAY, HAVE LOST 11 OF THEIR LAST 13 SOUTHLAND MATCHUPS, AND HAVE DROPPED TO 4TH PLACE IN THE LEAGUE STANDINGS. THE KATS WILL FACE TEXAS A&M IN THEIR FINAL NON-CONFERENCE GAME OF THE YEAR ON TUESDAY IN COLLEGE STATION, BEFORE OPENING THEIR FINAL SOUTHLAND SERIES OF THE YEAR AT HOME ON THURSDAY AGAINST INCARNATE WORD.
