IN COLLEGE BASKETBALL, THE SHSU BEARKATS RAN INTO A BUZZSAW MONDAY NIGHT IN WACO, FALLING TO THE NO. 22 BAYLOR BEARS 84-56. THE LOSS DROPPED THE KATS’ RECORD TO 5-&-4 FOR THE SEASON, WITH THEIR NEXT ACTION SET FOR DEC. 13 AT MISSISSIPPI.

IN HIGH SCHOOL HOOPS TODAY, THE HUNTSVILLE HORNETS WILL BE AT HOME AT PAUL BOHAN HORNET GYM TO HOST THE LUFKIN PANTHERS AT 7:30PM WHILE THE LADY HORNETS WILL BE AT HOME AS WELL, TIPPING OFF THE DOUBLE-HEADER AT H-H-S AGAINST NEW WAVERLY AT 6PM. ALSO, THE ALPHA OMEGA LIONS & LADY LIONS WILL BE AT HOME AGAINST SPRING FRASSATI CATHOLIC, WITH THE GIRLS PLAYING AT 5PM, AND THE BOYS TIPPING OFF AT 6:30PM.

IN COLLEGE FOOTBALL, SHSU BEARKAT SENIOR QUARTERBACK JEREMIAH BRISCOE WILL HAVE THE CHANCE TO MAKE F-C-S HISTORY NEXT MONTH AFTER BEING NAMED ONE OF 3 FINALISTS FOR THE WALTER PAYTON AWARD. BRISCOE WON THE AWARD IN 2016, AND CAN BECOME ONLY THE 2ND PLAYER IN HISTORY TO WIN THE AWARD MORE THAN ONCE. THE HOUSTON STRATFORD PRODUCT WILL BE JOINED BY SOUTH DAKOTA QUARTERBACK CHRIS STEVELER AND CALIFORNIA-DAVIS WIDE RECEIVER KEELAN DOSS AT THE AWARDS CEREMONY IN FRISCO ON JAN. 5. THE PAYTON AWARD IS BASICALLY THE F-C-S EQUIVALENT OF THE HEISMAN TROPHY. AS FOR BRISCOE, HE’LL LEAD THE 6TH-SEEDED KATS THIS SATURDAY AT 7:35PM WHEN THE BEARKATS HOST KENNESAW STATE IN THE QUATERFINALS OF THE F-C-S PLAYOFFS AT BOWERS STADIUM.
