FOR JUST THE 2ND TIME IN F-C-S HISTORY, THE WALTER PAYTON AWARD HAD A REPEAT WINNER OVER THE WEEKEND WHEN SHSU BEARKAT QUARTERBACK JEREMIAH BRISCOE CLAIMED THE AWARD FOR THE 2ND YEAR IN A ROW AT THE STATS F-C-S AWARDS BANQUET IN FRISCO. AFTER WINNING THE AWARD IN A LANDSLIDE IN 2016, THIS YEAR’S RACE WAS CLOSER AS BRISCOE COLLECTED 40 1ST-PLACE VOTES TO EDGE SOUTH DAKOTA QUARTERBACK CHRIS STEVELER WHO FINISHED AS THE RUNNER-UP. BRISCOE EXITS SAM HOUSTON AS THE SCHOOL’S ALL-TIME LEADER IN TOTAL YARDS PASSING, TOTAL OFFENSE AND TOUCHDOWN PASSES WHILE ALSO HOLDING THE SINGLE-SEASON RECORDS IN EACH OF THOSE CATEGORIES.
