The Hornets slugged it out with Willis for one half Friday. But when the Wildkats finally landed a couple of potent uppercuts, then followed those with painful body blows, the Hornets crumbled in a 37-14 loss to their neighbors from the south in the regular-season finale at Bowers Stadium…
For a player listed as wide receiver on the roster sheet, SHSU sophomore Richard Sincere holds a bit more responsibility when he’s on the field.
Sometimes, the coaching staff might line Sincere up in the backfield where he’s most comfortable, often using his quarterback instincts to read opposing defensive schemes.
Other times, Sincere lines up at wide out, where he is still a work in progress. But the most dangerous part of his arsenal is something the coaches can’t teach – explosiveness…
Sam Houston, one of only two NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) teams still unbeaten, has climbed to No. 4 in this week’s Sports Network FCS Top 25 poll.
The Bearkats defeated Lamar 66-0 to continue Sam Houston’s best season start since 1964. The Kats lead the Southland Conference with a 5-0 league mark.
The No. 4 ranking is Sam Houston’s highest since December 20, 2004, when the Bearkats were rated No. 3 in the final poll of the season after reaching the NCAA FCS national semifinals…
Sophomore Richard Sincere rushed for 102 yards and a 40-yard touchdown and caught a 77-yard pass for another TD to lead Sam Houston to a 66-0 shutout of the Lamar Cardinals Saturday afternoon at Eliott T. Bowers Stadium.
The 66 points represented the second highest score for the Bearkats in a Southland Conference game. Sam Houston scored 69 against Nicholls in 1999…
Trailing by three points at halftime, the Hornets said they felt pretty good. An hour or so later, they didn’t look so good.
After the Panthers of Kingwood Park ran off and left Huntsville 34-14, the Hornets were smarting a bit.
“We can’t lose our minds like we did tonight. We can’t lose control,” Huntsville defensive end Steve York said. “We’ve got to watch what we do out on the field and tonight we fell apart. We fell apart and started running our mouths.”
It’s back to business as usual for the Bearkats.
After getting a little time to enjoy the big win over McNeese State last Saturday, Sam Houston now has its attention squarely fixed on Lamar today.
“Against McNeese, that was a real good game. We didn’t have a whole lot of good history against them going in,” Bearkats cornerback Bookie Sneed said following a chilly walk-through practice on Thursday.
In a place where Sam Houston has endured far more agony than jubilation over the years, the seventh-ranked Kats took it to McNeese State and walked out of “The Hole” with yet another dominant performance from start to finish.
Sam Houston, which had previously won only one once (1999) in Lake Charles, La. in 12 tries, beat up the Cowboys and never relented, cruising to a 38-14 blowout Saturday night…
Tim Flanders tied the Sam Houston career record for most 100-yard rushing yard games, Robert Shaw scored on a blocked punt and the Bearkat defense created three turnovers as the Bearkats rolled to a 38-14 Southland Conference football victory over McNeese State Saturday at Cowboy Stadium.
The win was only the second for Sam Houston in Lake Charles in the Bearkats’ 24 years of NCAA Division I FCS football in the Southland Conference…
Coming off their biggest win in the last couple of years, the Hornets could have let up a little Friday. It would have been understandable had Huntsville limped through a homecoming game against a struggling and much smaller squad from New Caney.
Huntsville’s defense did not let up in the least. The Hornets dominated New Caney, holding the Eagles to 55 total yards of offense in a 23-0 Huntsville victory at Bowers Stadium…
It doesn’t get much simpler for the Hornets from this point forward.
Take care of business in the next three weeks and Huntsville will be headed back to the playoffs for a fourth straight fall.
Deadlocked in a five-way tie for first place in District 18-4A, the Hornets know that a couple of more wins will clinch another trip to the postseason….
