The 13th annual Walker County Emergency Personnel Appreciation Dinner is set for 6-8pm Aug. 9 at the Walker County Storm Shelter on Highway 75 North across from Kate Barr Ross Park in Huntsville. “Dust Bowl Motel” is a new play which will debut in Huntsville. The play, written by Jim Roth & Scott McCarley, tells the story of a woman who dreams of leaving Oklahoma for a new & better life in sunny California – and will feature several original songs. Performances are slated for Aug. 15-17 at the Old Town Theatre on 12th Street in downtown Huntsville. Tickets are $10 & $12, and can be purchased in advance. Huntsville ISD is sponsoring their “Summer Food Service Program.” Meals are provided free of charge to children from 1 to 18 years of age. Adults wishing to participate in the program will be required to pay a nominal fee. The City of Huntsville has posted notice of filing for positions on the Nov. 4 ballot. Filing dates are July 19 through Aug. 18. The city’s application fee is $1. Huntsville Head Start is now accepting applications for the 2014-2015 school year. Children must be 3 or 4 years old by Sept. 1, and must be from low-income families or be children with special needs.
