2017 SHSU Bearkat Baseball Season Tickets Now Available!

December 22, 2016 - January 27, 2017

Season tickets for the 2017 SHSU Bearkat baseball season are on sale for the program’s 34 home games at Don Sanders Stadium on the university campus. The Kats will play 23 of its 1st 25 games at home beginning with the opener Feb. 17 against Nevada. Season ticket prices range from $110 to $225. Season-ticket holders have until Jan. 27 to renew their same seats. Single-game tickets will go on sale Feb. 1. USDA’s Farm Service Agency- Notifications

The USDA’s Farm Service Agency now offers farmers & ranchers the opportunity to receive notifications from the county office through text messages on their cell phone. The messages inform producers of important program deadlines, reporting requirements, outreach events & updates. The Road to the Promised Land Exhibit

January 10 - February 28

The Sam Houston Memorial Museum will present an exhibit called “The Road to the Promised Land.” The exhibit – which will be on display from Tuesday through Feb. 28 – will feature information concerning The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. & the civil rights movement. The exhibit will be available to tour on a daily basis Tuesdays through Sundays in the museum’s exhibit gallery of the Walker Education Center on 19th Street. SHSU Bearkat women’s softball season tickets

January 10 - February 21

Season tickets are now on sale for SHSU Bearkat women’s softball team. The Bearkat women open their season Feb. 22 against former Southland Conference rival Texas-San Antonio at the Bearkat Softball Complex on the university campus. Reserved-seat season tickets are $50, and include all 18 scheduled events at the complex. Double-headers are included as one ticket for both games. Huntsville residents can “winterize” their sewer charge

January 10 - February 28

City of Huntsville residential customers need to “winterize” their sewer charge. Water-meter usage through February is used to calculate residents’ new sewer average charge for the next year. Consciously reducing your sewer usage through February could lower your sewer charge. The new sewer charge will be effective with your April billing which will be due in May. For more information call (936) 291-1520.

Huntsville Girls Softball Association

The Huntsville Girls Softball Association is offering spring softball registration. Prospective players can register from 10am-2pm Saturday, and again Jan. 21. Registration will take place at the Academy Sports & Outdoors store in the Ravenwood Shopping Center on I-45 at Smither Drive. Registration cost for the 1st child is $110 – additional siblings will register for $55 each. Registration can also take place online. The Walker County Master Gardeners organization is currently accepting registration for the group’s classes that begin on Jan. 19. The program covers a number of topics in the horticulture field – such as soil preparation, weed & insect control, composting, proper fertilization and vegetable gardening. Enrollment is limited. HMH- Chronic Disease Self-Management Workshop

Huntsville Memorial Hospital – along with the Walker County Healthy Initiatives – is offering a free “Chronic Disease Self-Management” workshop. The workshop takes place beginning at 10am each Thursday in the conference rooms of the hospital. The workshop allows you to discover how to prevent or delay complication for chronic diseases such as high blood pressure, arthritis, chronic pain, heart diseases, diabetes and more.
