SHSU Veterans Week Activities

SHSU will observe “Veterans Week” Nov. 10-14. You’re invited to join in the celebration as the university honors all veterans of the American armed forces. The week will begin with a “Veterans’ Job & Resource Fair” from 10am to 2pm Nov. 10 in the Lowman Student Center Ballroom on the university campus. An “Armistice Day” observation & ceremony – hosted by the SHSU ROTC – is set for 4:30-6:30pm Nov. 11 at the flagpole next to the ROTC building. From 11am to 1pm Nov. 14, you’re invited to the “Grillin’ & Chillin’” event at the Veterans Resource Center. For more information call 294-1111.

239th Marine Corps Birthday Luncheon

All Marines – active duty, retired, reserve & former – plus attached Navy personnel – are invited to the 239th Marine Corps Birthday Luncheon. The event is set for 11:30am Nov. 10, and will take place at the Veterans Conference Center on Highway 75 North across from Kate Barr Ross Park. Cost is $10. Surplus funds will be donated to the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund. For more information call 438-9170.

H.E.A.R.T.S. Veterans Museum 15th annual Veterans Day Banquet

The H.E.A.R.T.S. Veterans Museum in Huntsville will host its 15th annual “Veterans Day Banquet” beginning at 6pm Nov. 11. The silent auction will begin at 6, with dinner & program following at 6:30pm. Dress code is Class A or dress uniform for military personnel – coat & tie for civilians. Tickets are $20 and must be purchased in advance. Corporate sponsorships are avilable for $250 for a table of 8. For more information call 295-5959.

Huntsville Head Start- Adopt a Family for Thanksgiving

The Huntsville Head Start program is seeking groups, organizations, businesses & individuals to adopt a family for Thanksgiving. You are invited to provide Thanksgiving dinner to one or more of the Head Start families in need. The Head Start office is located on FM 980 near its intersection with FM 247. Gospel Music Program Benefiting Steven Lee

You’re invited to a gospel music program benefiting Steven Lee. Steven has been selected to travel to Hollywood in December for professional training that will enable him to further his singing career. The benefit program is set for 6pm Nov. 15 at Unity of Faith Missionary Baptist Church on Watkins Street in Huntsville. The program will feature several locally popular gospel music acts. Heath Shielack Memorial Scholarship BBQ Cook-Off

SHSU’s Ag Business Club will host its 1st barbecue cookoff to raise funds for the Heath Shielack Memorial Scholarship – a program available to students in the university’s agriculture department. The cookoff is set for Nov. 21 & 22 at the Walker County Fairgrounds. Early entry fee is $130 per team. General admission to the event will be $15. A silent auction will also take place. Huntsville-Walker County Chamber of Commerce Annual Chamber Gala

The Huntsville-Walker County Chamber of Commerce will host its annual “Chamber Gala” Dec. 9 in the ballroom of the Lowman Student Center on the SHSU campus. Tickets are $55 for chamber members – $440 for a table of 8. A portion of the live & silent auctions benefit the Mary Frances Park Scholarship.  Reservations are essential.
